Answers to Your Questions
Sober living houses (also called halfway houses or recovery houses) refer to group residences for people recovering from addiction to drugs or alcohol. These residences provide safety and structure to build a foundation for recovery and offer a transitional period before returning to independent living. The communal nature of the home provides support from peers and accountability from other individuals working towards a new life free from addiction.
WHAT IS SOBER LIVING AND WHY DO I NEED IT?
First and foremost, Beacon Recovery Residences has a zero tolerance policy for use of drugs or alcohol. Beacon is a 12 step focused house, so guidelines also include attending 12 step meetings and active participation in a 12 step fellowship. Other guidelines include curfew, chores, and frequent drug testing. After a 30-day period, curfew is 11pm Sunday - Thursday, 12am on Friday and Saturday. Residents are expected to begin work or school within two weeks of entry and are allowed to have personal transportation. There are no restrictions, phases or a “blackout” periods when you first enter the house, but there are times when we will offer additional support for an individual.
WHAT SORT OF RULES SHOULD I EXPECT?
Beacon Recovery Residences costs $200 a week. Included in this fee is a shared bedroom (2 residents per room), WIFI, utilities, all linens and towels, laundry products, toilet paper and cleaning supplies. Residents are responsible for food, transportation, and personal products- we provide the rest with no hidden fees.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST AND WHAT IS INCLUDED?
We encourage our residents to stay at Beacon for a minimum of 6 months but there is no designated timeframe or commitment. It is believed that longer time in sober living establishing a foundation in recovery encourages sustained abstinence. Residents are free to reside at Beacon for as long or as short a time period as they wish, and we will aide residents in transitioning from Beacon back to independent living.
HOW LONG CAN I STAY?
There is no visitation. However, you can be allowed an overnight pass if you are meeting all of the requirements of the house.
